The wood of this Central American tree has immense spiritual significance for the region.
It grows in the Amazon from Ecuador to Peru, partly in Mexico and has been used since ancient times by the original inhabitants for its magical, cleansing and medicinal purposes.
It is sometimes called the sandalwood of America and indeed has similar uses and importance. Its cleansing effects are significant, local shamans burn this wood and incense the place and people with it before healing rituals, it serves to ward off misfortunes and calamities, removes the imprints of bad energies and negative forces.
It also has calming properties, opens the spirit and allows entry into another reality, is well suited for smoking in the evening, often accompanies the Ayahuasca ritual in its homeland.
