The Phoenix is a mythical bird that dies, only to be consumed in flame and reborn again from its ashes to a new life: death, regeneration, and rebirth, again. The Phoenix reminds us of the impermanence of life, even while realizing the importance of being committed to living it.

The Phoenix offers us the chance to "keep on, keepin' on" - to learn, grow, adapt, and transform ourselves.

As a spirit animal ally, the Phoenix represents rebirth, transformation, rejuvenation, and renewal. It is strongly tied to the Sun - warmth, light, nurturing. Phoenix brings the Light with it wherever it goes, and reminds us to look for this Light both within ourselves as well as in all others.

As a symbol of the Spirit/Soul or Mind, the Phoenix is eternal and at peace with itself and its lessons, experiences, and trials. It shows us that we are capable of more than we think!

The idea of a bird or bird-like creature that is reborn and lives in cycles is present in a variety of cultures. The Thunderbird, the Hindu Garuda, the Russian Firebird (Zhar-ptitsa), the Persian Simurgh, the Turkish Konrul, the Jewish Milcham, the Tibetan Me Byi Karmo, and the Chinese Fenghuang are some examples.

The Phoenix is strongly tied to the astrological sign of Scorpio. They are both associated with rebirth and transformation, and for a Scorpio, (or any of us, for that matter) the Phoenix can assist with learning the lessons of letting go of that which no longer serves, as well as breaking the chains/attachments we have created for ourselves, OR that have been placed on us by others.

Scorpio can be said to have four stages that are exemplified by certain spirit animals: the Scorpion, the Serpent, the Eagle, and the Phoenix. But every person, a Scorpio Sun sign or not, can access the energy and power of the Phoenix in their life!

The Phoenix represents someone on a path that is dedicated to their spiritual evolution. This stage usually begins after a momentous life change, trauma, or an immense personal loss of some kind. These resourceful people have a gift for making something out of nothing. They are reborn from the ashes of their lives in the same way that a Phoenix is reborn from the ashes of its former self. These individuals possess the strengths of all the other forms: the Scorpion's power, the Serpent's capacity for renewal, regeneration and transmutation, and the Eagle's detachment and far reaching perception.

Like the Phoenix, rising from the ashes we can grow through life's hardships, moving through the depths of our subconscious and emotions, rising into the spiritual Light, and into self-discovery. We can challenge ourselves to grow despite the pain of life and we can choose to face life’s intensity full on, so we may shine as brightly as the Phoenix. The Phoenix is reborn from the ashes of its former self, transforming itself, as it begins again.

The Phoenix offers insight into shedding the attachments, issues, and anxieties that come from being on the Earth Plane – we burn them away (metaphorically!) Fire has been considered a cleansing force for thousands of years, after all.

With the rebirth comes rejuvenation and renewal. A chance to start over, experience a sense of accomplishment, and find ourselves in a way we have never quite been able to before. Will that be our final cycle? Maybe not - and that's OK! The Phoenix energy allows us to rise up from the old ways that no longer serve, as needed, and whenever the time is right.

When we challenge ourselves to grow and are willing to face life’s intensity head on, despite the pain of life, we can shine as brightly as the Phoenix.
